If you like the sound of a week with large helpings of charm, allure and intrigue, don't miss Peñíscola Magic Summer.

For a few days, the centre of Peñíscola is transformed into a series of bewitching, magical streets that allow the visitor to experience the night like never before.

This is the first festival of the season in the Valencia Region, bringing in the summer with a mixture of magic, food and fun.

A recent creation, the event took place in Peñíscola from the 24th to the 27th of June 2010.

A series of astonishing, exciting tricks will plunge you into a world of illusion down by the beaches of Peñíscola. Renowned magicians will teach you all those tricks you always wanted to learn how to do when you were a kid - all will be revealed here in Peñíscola.

Come and enjoy the summer nights like you never have before. Dance under the stars in the clear Peñíscola sky, under the gaze of Peñíscola at its most charming and captivating.

The Night of San Juan, coinciding with Midsummer, is by definition a magical one. But in Peñíscola, it becomes undoubtedly the most magical night of the year. Your deepest desires will be fulfilled on its sandy beaches, transformed into idyllic settings where the oldest recorded spells and rituals come together, just waiting to make your dreams come true.

CLASSICAL THEATRE FESTIVAL AT PEÑÍSCOLA CASTLE

The ideal setting to enjoy the most illustrious playwrights

In the summer evenings in July and August, the inner ward of Peñíscola Castle becomes the setting for classic plays by some of the most important Spanish playwrights of all time. Cervantes, Calderon de la Barca, Valle-Inclán... these are just some of the authors who will take you back in time to the historic period in which they wrote their pieces. Delight in the beauty of their words against the backdrop of the sea lightly lapping the centuries-old rocks upon which the castle in the City in the Sea stands.

INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL

From the 1st to the 24th of July.

Throughout July, some of the top jazz artists and groups in the world converge on the Plaza Santa María and Peñíscola Conference Centre, including the likes of Bebo Valdes, Kenny Barron and Manhattan Transfer. Let the music blow you away down by the Renaissance walls, a setting full of notes that take over the crowd's senses, with the lull of the Mediterranean in the background.

International Jazz Program

INTERNATIONAL ANCIENT AND BAROQUE MUSIC FESTIVAL

During the first half of August.

Taking place in mid-August and opening with a Pyro-musical show that brings together breathtaking fireworks and classical music by the most important composers of all time, this programme of early and baroque music festoons the visitor's ears with some of the most intense melodies ever composed.

PEÑÍSCOLA CLASSICAL MUSIC CONCERT SERIES

During the second half of September.

What better way to close out summer than with the Ciudad de Peñíscola Classical Music Concert Series. The Gothic hall at Pope Luna's Castle is the perfect setting to enjoy the sea breeze while listening to first-rate compositions.

HONDARRIBIA-PEÑÍSCOLA INTERNATIONAL GUITAR FESTIVAL

During Easter holidays.

There is no better way to celebrate the fraternal spirit of these twinned cities than by holding a musical event over Easter that assembles some of the most talented performers from all over the world, leaving the spectator to simply sit back, enjoy the melodies and admire the amazing views out over the Mediterranean - a sense of peace that only a Templar Castle could provide.

BANDS FESTIVAL

By the end of July.

Surrounded by exotic plants and with the breathtaking views over the Bay of Peñíscola offered by the Parque de Artillería (military depot), you can enjoy this annual date with major brass bands organised by Peñíscola's Virgen de l'Ermitana Music Association. There's no question that the combination of the sound of the waves washing ashore the Playa Norte, the sight and scent of the flowers in Pope Luna's gardens, and the musical wizardry from the top bands in the Valencia Region, will give tourists a feast for the senses.
