GASTRONOMIC FAIR
Summer gets underway with the inauguration of a new edition of the Gastronomic Fair dedicated to the Caragol Punxent (Sea Snail), a dish typical of seaside towns and Peñíscolan cuisine. Just like the King Prawn and Octopus Gastronomic Fair held at the Peñíscola Fish Market in autumn, several local restaurants create genuine delicacies made using the star products.
We invite everyone to share in the pleasure of sampling these dishes, which fuse fine cooking, ingenuity and good taste.
MEDIEVAL MARKET
The Plaza Santa María and the Bullring are the chosen venues to showcase authentic products from the Middle Ages. Stalls are decked out to fit the medieval theme, combined with medieval-style art, crafts workshops and falconry displays.
WEEKLY MARKET
Every Monday morning throughout the year Peñíscola hosts the traditional travelling street market in which visitors can purchase products such as fruit, vegetables, clothes, shoes, souvenirs or homeware... The venues of choice are the Plaza Illueca and Calle Maestro Bayarri.
HIPPY MARKET
At the foot of the old city walls can be found this market, selling jewellery, scents, minerals and handicrafts... A real must, with the sound of the Mediterranean as a backdrop, no one should leave Peñíscola without having visited it.
LIVE NATIVITY SCENE
During the Christmas and New Year holidays, the Artillery Depot serves as a natural setting for traditional and popular representations of biblical passages related to Christmas, with the participation of locals of all ages, from children to the elderly alike.
TAPAS AND FLIP FLOPS
In the first week of September every year the Municipal Tourist Board, together with local businesses, runs the innovative gastronomic event Chanclas y Tapas ("Tapas and Flip Flops").
Open to any bar wishing to take part, the Tapas and Flip Flops crawl involves each bar preparing two options that are different to their standard tapas. For a reasonable price you can enjoy a tapa accompanied by a beer, glass of wine or soft drink. Participants in the crawl are each given a coupon, which is stamped every time they try a tapa at a different bar. Once you have collected all of the stamps, you can head over to the tourist office to pick up your free pair of flip flops. On top of this, you get the chance to pick which bar takes away the prizes for best tapa and best presentation.
